President Sofie Ameloot welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Hayes provided the prayer.

- Pancake Committee will start meeting again to plan this year’s fundraiser. Please join us on Wednesday, July 24, 5 pm via zoom. The more, the merrier! Adam will send out the link.
- District 6670 Dayton Dragons game is Aug 5. $7 of each ticket sold goes to End Polio Now.
- Business membership committee met last week. Stay tuned for their recommendations.
- Dave Herman’s office is being torn down. He has relocated to a building across from Club 51.
- Andrea Share’s surgery went well and she is recovering nicely.
- Kelly McDonald announced the next social is August 29 for wine and appetizers at Sueño. Then a pot luck at Brad Huffman’s house on September 12, starting at 5:30 pm - bring appetizers to share
- Bill Menker had books on display that will be donated in honor of the speaker each week. There will eventually be a list of the collection at Centerville Library.
- We will start a Rotary minute around the Rotary Means Business initiative. Members will give testimonials sharing how Rotary helped them or what brought them to Rotary. Share knowledge about what we do and why we do it to become better connected.
Happy Bucks this quarter are going to Operation Warm, providing winter coats to children in need.

- Pat Beckel’s testimonial was to acknowledge Don Stewart who rescues him every year at tax time. Best CPA around. If you see something in the paper about a Rotarian, let Pat know so we can recognize them.
- Pat said he was presented with the coolest pin last week but forgot it this week, so he paid a fine.
- Wyatt Thorp hasn’t been here in 6 weeks, and shared he is on the Board of Camp Kern where he recently heard about Optimist clubs donating funds for an accessible ramp. He is asking the ED of Camp Kern to speak at Rotary and maybe we can match the Optimist donations.
- Frank Perez was happy his wife got a new hip and is doing great; 5 days ago his son got engaged; 4 days ago he celebrated his 40th anniversary.
- Mike Wier has been in Rotary over 40 years, clubs in Florida and Centerville, and had made up all over the world. This is the first time ever he was served shrimp at a Rotary meeting.
- Wayne Davis was happy our former President was not assassinated.
- Don Stewart thanked Pat for his kind words and noted he is leaving to play golf in Colorado.
- Dale Berry is the subject of a Podcast on public TV and he mentions Rotary.
- Amy Hary was happy swim team is over.
- Ron Hollenbeck noted all pledges are in for the water pumps. The goal was 6 but raised enough for 7 pumps.
- Socks Bowersocks is always happy about something and today he was happy he’s still married.

- Lee Hieronymus’ farm report was soybeans lesson today. Domesticated in the 11th century BC; First in US literature in 1804; It is 80% meal 20% oil; 87.45 million acres grown in the US annually.
- Don Overly said it was such a beautiful birthday song that he gave again for his birthday.
- Chuck King was happy.
- Harvey Smith was glad Elda is back so he can eat again.
- Elda Gotos Gay had a good trip to her son’s in St Louis, stating there was no space for Harvey since she was taking so much to her son! Maybe next time…
- Jim Harris was happy for the lower humidity; Remembers signing the first government contract and he wrote down what they wanted to pay. He was asked how he can justify the cost and his financial person said it’s because that’s what he put down!
- Kelly McDonald said the Happy Bucks Venmo card is at each table along with new Rotary theme pins for all to pick up.
- Gina Smith is back from vacation and she got to visit a Rotary Club in Frankfurt, MI.
- Carol Kennard was fortunate to see her husband’s 99-year old Uncle receive recognition for his service on the USS Hornet in WWII. He was one of 17 men from Johnson County, KY to serve on the Hornet, and the only surviving member. A new monument was unveiled at Paintsville Lake, KY. She also thanked Gina for reminding her it was Thursday.
- Pat Turnbull is happy to have an exchange student, Gwendolyn, staying at his house this month.
- Adam Manning noted this Saturday he is playing mud volleyball.
- Lisa Goris Gay was happy to be here sitting next to the new president, and shared she is buying 2 coats/month until we’re done. Coats are now $23.
- Sofie Ameloot said her house is just about ready for her brother’s visit.

Our speaker today was Doug Wurtzbaher, owner of iCode Centerville.
Doug Wurtzbacher is the owner of iCode Centerville in Cross Pointe Shopping Center. He grew up in the Kettering area then completed his education at University of Cincinnati and University of Michigan and University of Tennessee-Memphis Medical Centers.
He returned to Ohio after teaching at UT. He assisted with a family pharmacy business where he also was a volunteer instructor for the Ohio State University.
When he’s not learning and working on the new business, he enjoys working with local groups such as Heart of Centerville / Washington Township as well as volunteering for Diabetes Dayton.
Doug started by showing a drone that is controlled by computer, which is being used in his classes.
His school teaches STEM - Science, Tech, Engineering, Math. They teach how to make your own video at the YouTube video creation camp. He showed a video created by an 8 year old.
Their focus is Gamification of Learning - learn through fun activities at camps and classes.
They will partner with Centerville schools this year.
Roblox is gaming, yes, but kids are creating their own world.
Carnegie Mellon Last Lecture program gave him the inspiration to change to STEM. Randy Pausch inspired him to do something he really enjoyed.
They don’t give the answers at iCode. Kids are given problems to work through. Sometimes they get the answer, sometimes they don’t, sometimes it takes 2-3 times, or sometimes they come up with a completely different solution.
Students problem solve with others and learn how to work through problems together. They use UD students to give them experience teaching kids.
Doug said he likes to give back to the Centerville community where he grew up. He does this because he likes to, but is still doing pharmaceutical work, too.
There are no adult classes yet, but there seems to be a growing interest.
President Ameloot thanked Doug for sharing information, led reciting the 4-Way Test, and wished all a good week.
