• Updates from Monday’s Board meeting:
  • Board approved motion discontinuing the red ribbon requirements for new members who have previously been Rotarians. As a result, Arnie called up Ron Bowersock and removed his ribbon. Ron is keeping it as it is the only red ribbon he has ever received.

• Andrea Share and Jessie Campbell’s applications were both approved. Welcome to Centerville Rotary. Club plans to induct them next week.
• Club is helping sponsor the touring Vietnam War Memorial exhibit being organized by the Washington-Centerville Public Library.
• Club is sponsoring a foursome for the upcoming Optimists golf outing. Don Stewart will be our team’s captain.
• Club is ending the year in good financial shape.
• Members are encouraged to share ideas for district grant requests for next year. District has received a generous donation which should allow for more funds to be available.
• Our poolside picnic event has been rescheduled to August 18^th.
• Still time to sign up to ride the firetruck in the 4^th of July parade. Join Lee, Ashlee, and Olivia in the fun.
• Arnie welcomed back our long-time member, Don Gerhardt who has not been able to make a meeting in person for a few months. Club joined in with a strong round of applause and sang him Happy Birthday as today is Don’s 86^th birthday.

• Artemis Center serves survivors of domestic violence and helps approximately 5,000 individuals each year. It was named after the Greek goddess of light and protector of the vulnerable. It was founded by a small group of women who realized most victims need advocacy and supportive services beyond housing.
• National statistics show 85-95% of victims are women. The Artemis Center falls in line as their clients are about 95% women.
• Domestic violence is not exclusive to certain cultures, socioeconomic status, or races.
• 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men aged 18 and older in the U.S. have been a victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
• What is Domestic Violence? Driven by Power and Control on the part of the abuser.

• Why don’t they just leave? Never easy and dangerous to do:

• Even when they do leave, it doesn’t mean the violence stops.
• 3 months after leaving is the most dangerous time for some survivors.

• They staff the Montgomery County’s Domestic Violence Hotline (24/7)
• Provide small support and education groups
• Child Therapy
• Criminal court accompaniment to 5 municipal courts in Montgomery County
• Civil court accompaniment at Domestic Relations Court
• Client Assistance (e.g., Bus passes, gas cards, lock changes, window alarms and door stops, food and hygiene pantries, diapers, wipes, and toys).

• Donate to one of their pantries: food, toiletries, toys, cell phones most needed
• Become a volunteer
• Provide financial help

June is here and it’s time to start planning to attend the Rotary District 6670 Night at the Dragons at Day Air Ballpark. If you have been to a Dragons’ game before, you know how exciting they can be.
