Our speakers today were Frank Scott and Ron Hollenbeck sharing information about Rotary Foundation month.

Ron shared information about the November Rotary Foundation Month project in our club. We have a club match for donations made in November up to $500. This can help members achieve their next level of Paul Harris Fellow (PHF), $1,000. We encourage people to participate in November, taking advantage of this matching program.
There are several areas of designation under the Rotary Foundation, including:
  • Annual Fund gives to RI to direct where greatest need
  • Polio Plus
  • Disaster Response
  • Environment
  • And more

Letters were distributed to all members showing where you stand on your next PHF.

PHF+8 is the highest level to achieve at $1,000 increments. The next level is Major Donor Level 1 ($10,000 donation.)

If interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, get your info to Ron this month. All will be recognized at a meeting in January. This is a great opportunity to get your first or next level PHF, utilizing points. Points are earned every time a donation is made, and although you can’t use your own points, they can be used for other Rotarians. We’ve had some generous donors over the years who have donated their points for others.

Write a check to: Rotary International Foundation or donate online at rotary.org. If you donate online, please let Ron know.

Can also make donations monthly - set up auto pay at rotary.org. It was suggested to set up auto pay rather than donating with your quarterly bill, as that reduces the burden on record keeping.

Dan Johnson reminded all that your first $1,000 single/$2,000 married filing jointly of charitable contributions are now tax deductible.

A portion of your donation comes back to the District after 3 years, which is then distributed through district grants.

Frank Scott is the District RI Foundation chair and member of Dayton Rotary, has held various Rotary leadership roles including District Governor. He is a great friend to Centerville Rotary and helps us get district grants.

Frank noted that Design Outreach’s goal was to raise $15 million to reach 1 million people with their water pump, and actually beat it. Our club continues to support their efforts.

Frank said in 1917, Arch Klump started the Rotary Foundation with just $26.50. It has now grown to a $4 billion foundation. However, it’s not about the dollars raised, but the projects that have been funded with those funds.

50% of the earnings from the Rotary Annual Fund goes back to the district. The other 50% goes toward global grants.

Frank thanked our club, as we have been one of the top clubs in the district for many years. They look at 5 year blocks of time for per capita giving:
2022-2023 Centerville Rotary was $518 per person, which is 5x the Rotary metric or $100 per person. We were the #1 club in the District and the District average that year was $103 per capita
2024 $519 per capita (District $70)
2025 $364 per capita
2026 $351 per capita
Centerville is generally the #1 club in the district per capita giving.

There are currently 43 clubs in District 6670.

$1.2 million was raised in the mid-80s for polio plus, as the program started. Since then, $2.7 billion has been spent in polio eradication. There are only 40 cases worldwide now. Afganistan and Pakistan are the remaining countries with polio. Since they are primarily nomadic people, it is harder to reach for the required vaccination 2 years in a row.

Frank also mentioned in Malawi, one Design Outreach well has been working for over a decade without issues.

The All OH District conference in April will be held in Columbus and includes a celebration of the 40 year anniversary of allowing women in Rotary. All 5 districts in OH will be there, along with great speakers.

Advice is don’t write a check, they get washed and can be changed. Online donations  securely with a credit card is best.

Heart to Heart collaborated with Mexico Heart. District 6670 pledge $25,000 to that program. Our District is currently participating in 8 global grants, and every year makes a 20% donation to Polio.

There is a good article in this month’s magazine about a polio patch that doesn’t require refrigeration, which could really help reach more people.
