Centerville Rotary Meeting Highlights
Our Rotary theme for this month is
Maternal and Child Health Month
President Adam Manning welcomed everyone to the Centerville Rotary Club and led reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Hayes provided the prayer.

Today’s quote provided by Don Overly: "Lead from the heart, not the head."  Princess Diana

Thanks to our greeter today, Frank Perez.
Welcome today’s guest, Harvey Smith’s son, who is moving from California to Beavercreek soon.

Adam then requested Carol Kennard’s granddaughter Kaycee to come forward along with Carol and Boyd Preston. Adam surprised Kaycee with naming her an honorary member of the Centerville Rotary Club. She was presented with a badge, folder with Rotary information, a Rotary pin, and a modified list of items to complete as a new member. Carol is her sponsor and Boyd is her mentor. Kaycee, who just celebrated her 10th birthday, has been attending Rotary meetings for many years, whenever her school schedule allows, and loves volunteering at the Pancake breakfast. Welcome, Kaycee!

Today’s announcements:
  • The next Board meeting is August 18, location TBD.
  • Pancake Committee met today. We are updating the sponsor sheet and discussed ideas for drawing new guests into the breakfast. There’s still time to join the committee!
  • Aug 9 is Rotary Day at the Dayton Dragons game
  • Gina Smith announced her dad, Ed (and club member) is in the hospital and his birthday was yesterday. We wish him a speedy recovery and happy birthday!
  • Lisa Goris May said the wheels are turning for this year’s Operation Warm - she sent to Hannah’s Treasure Chest the amount we raised, they sent the sizes they need and coats will be ordered by the end of August.

Happy Bucks this quarter will go to Disaster Relief for those affected by the recent flooding in Texas. Rotary District 5840 will distribute the funds.

Pat Beckel was our Sergeant at Arms with assistance by Jim Stuart.

Happy Bucks were generously given for:
  • Pat B was happily surprised the Beckel’s Humidor float won an award at the Americana Festival parade, and welcomed Kaycee.
  • Jim S for not being here for several weeks.
  • Gina S shared a message from her cousin who lives in Kerrville, TX - Most are still processing the loss, and she is so grateful for the outpouring of support. She has been there for several floods but never saw it rise that fast before. She really appreciates what we’re doing to help.
  • Ron H welcomed Kaycee, and his niece came for visit.
  • Jeff S is just always happy and said for everyone to have a great day.
  • Michael K (today’s speaker) was happy to be here.
  • Arnie B for Kaycee.
  • Mark K just got back from a family vacation with 25 in one house, and they all had a great time.
  • Socks was just happy.
  • Lee H said his farm report was stolen, but he wanted to share that the Ohio Farm Bureau Health plan bill was signed into law so farmers are able to get health insurance.
  • Chuck K was not happy his dog got skunked last night.
  • Boyd P was happy for Kaycee and welcomed her.
  • Bill M for Kaycee.
  • Lisa GM for Kaycee.
  • Brian H for Kaycee.
  • Wyatt T was happy he is no longer the youngest member in the club!
  • Elda GG for Steve and Kaycee.
  • Harvey S for Kaycee
  • Carol K for the club’s warm welcome to Kaycee and thanked Adam for making her dreams come true by becoming an Honorary member.
  • Uriah A was in WI for his cousin’s wedding, and his wife discovered the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame museum.
  • Jake H’s son’s 5th birthday party was on Saturday and when a storm came through, the tent went flying, and he ended up with soaking wet kids and adults in the house, and an unintentional slip and slide in the back yard!
  • Adam M for Steve, Kaycee, and today’s speaker.
  • Kelly M for all great work, closed on his house in AZ, paid a fine for being late, and said he intends to stay involved with the club remotely for the next year. The Centerville Rotary Foundation is now official.
Our speaker today was Michael Kramer, District 6670 Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Coordinator.

Michael has been a Rotarian since 2009 and is in the Mason/Deerfield Club, where he was Club President for the 2021-22 year. He is an IT professional.

Michael shared why we need RLI. Rotary is over 100 years old and RLI helps educate all about Rotary’s history, goals, and future. Each individual Rotary club’s success depends on Club leadership. The main RLI Goal is education, to train and foster leadership

Philosophy of RLI:
  • Need Knowledge
  • Perspective of the past
  • Where are we gong
  • What is the vision

RLI has 6 different chapters, with a curriculum for each. RLI is not the same as the training provided by Rotary International. Both are valuable leadership trainings.

The facilitators for our RLI are people involved in District 6670 leadership.

The next training is scheduled for:
Oct 18, 8 am - 4 pm
Laurel Oaks Career Center in Wilmington

Where do you sign up? Can sign up on the District website through this LINK.

The fee is $60 per session or $15 per session for the virtual session (without printed materials.) Brian Hayes noted our Club will reimburse you for the cost to attend RLI. It is a good way to learn about all aspects of Rotary and our district.

It includes breakfast, lunch, snacks.

Michael shared the RLI Part 1 handout so all could get an idea of how the program begins. This RLI is specific to our district.

Session 1 Goals:
Explore the Characteristics of Leadership
Review Leadership Styles
Examine how your leadership style relates to other leaders in your club and to the needs of your Rotary Club

Michael said the secret sauce is talking with Rotarians in other districts and is a good networking opportunity.
