Our speakers today were Rotarians Mark Kottman, Kristy Spivey, and Vince Carone.
Today’s program allowed the Club to get to know our members better. Several questions were asked of them, and they shared a lot of interesting information and thoughts.
Mark sells residential real estate and small farms, lives in Centerville now but spent most of his life in Bellbrook.
Kristy is a financial analyst at Amentum, and lives in Centerville with her husband, Blake.
Vince is an exercise specialist and professional power lifter, lives in Kettering, and gives advice/general guidelines on proper diet.
Vince’s professional power lifting includes the squat, bench, and dead lift, and he is currently #2 in his weight class in the World. In October, he is competing at the York Barbell HOF (PA) where only 30 people were invited to compete. He trains 4 days/week and has been doing this for 10-15 years.
Mark was asked if he has seen unusual things in houses? He replied he has seen some pretty ugly houses. They stage the house, if needed - usually organize and get rid of things. Similar size houses can appear different sizes based on furniture and clutter in the house.
Kristy loves working with spreadsheets, and her main job is making sure they’re making money.
Mark share some 1040 sq ft, 1 car garage houses in Moraine that originally sold for $10,500 are now going for $190,00-200,000!
In her spare time, Kristy likes to read, shop, spend time together with her husband, and visit siblings in Lima. Her husband is an EMT so he’s very busy. She loves dystopian books and romance. Among the Brave was her favorite book when she was younger.
Vince received a 2-year degree at Sinclair. He said all health majors are in one building now so it makes it easy for training. He highly recommends Sinclair to anyone interested in health degrees.
Mark said lots of people don’t go in the office anymore but he works in the office each day. He works 7 days a week and has no interest in retiring because he loves his job.
Vince has had both shoulders scoped and cleaned out, and partial tears of other muscles. He hired a coach, and with his training, he doesn’t experience as many injuries. He is earning money now that he’s competing on a professional level. He got into physical therapy so he can learn how to take care of his body so he can compete as long as possible.
Career Advice?
Vince said he was in insurance base work, but health care has changed so much that he doesn’t want to work in that any more.
Kristy gave the advice that you should do something that makes you happy. Her parents pushed her to make money, but she found a job she loves doing.
Mark said to find something you enjoy doing, with potential for advancement.
Any Pets?
Mark has had dogs, but has none currently.
Kristy has a dog, cat, and new kitten.
Vince has a dog.
Do you use AI in work?
Kristy doesn’t use it at work, but does in personal life use to double check her work.
Mark uses it - he writes something and then asks AI to clean it up, and also uses it to create characters on social media.
Vince said they outpatient systems have an AI assistant, it can listen to conversations and summarize them, but he doesn’t use it for documentation of treatment plans.
Vince watches the older guys he trains with to learn what not to do. He takes the training more seriously now.
Kristy moved right after graduation, and became more independent at a young age.
Mark is more health conscious. He started 15 years ago with coaching, where they share problems, ideas, and new products, and come to table with goals each week which helps keep them on track.
